SYNTHETIC RESIN: Typical questions about epoxy resins

WHAT IS CHOCKFAST?

CHOCKFAST is a 2-component epoxy resin that has been used in shipbuilding and industry for approx. 40 years for applications in which high strength and fast curing times are essential. It is used to cast in place machines and plant in shipbuilding and when installing gas compressors, or for defective concrete foundations.

WHO NEEDS SOMETHING LIKE THAT?

Epoxy resins are used primarily in industry and shipbuilding, but are also used in the petrochemical industry, in gas storage facilities, paper mills, steelworks, on drilling platforms, in chemical factories etc.

WHY EPOXY RESINS INSTEAD OF CONCRETE?

Epoxy resins can be installed quickly and easily – they avoid the tedious fabrication of steel shims. As a result a user of epoxies achieve big time-savings and additional absorption of vibration, together with the advantage that epoxy spacers do not penetrate into surfaces and the machine does not become “loose” again.

DOES IT ACTUALLY LAST?

There are now cases of spacers that were installed under marine engines 30 years ago. That means constant exposure to vibrations, oil, fuels and water.
Up to now it was always the engine that failed, but not the CHOCKFAST spacer ...

IS IT APPROVED?

Our epoxy materials are approved by all the current classification organisations in the shipping sector.

CAN ONE PROCESS IT ONESELF?

Yes, no problem at all.
We will gladly give you information on this subject. However, only if the work is not subject to approval by a classification organisation. A special certificate is required for the processing of epoxy resins on safety-relevant components in shipbuilding.

WHAT DOES THIS KIND OF THING COST?

Between 10 and 50 Euro per litre, depending on the material.
